The first step of my journey into IT began back in Highscool and College. I got into IT from my natural desire to learn, understand and utilise technology as I've always found technology to be one of the few benefits to living in modern society. Back in highschool, we mainly covered Microsoft Office packages and a wide range of IT however we only touched upon the basics. Moving further along into College, this was much more of a broader coverage of IT but we dived deeper into tech and began learning skills related to Hardware/Tech support, Databases, Networking, Java and the most fun of all; HTML & CSS.
Starting this course, we began learning foundational IT skills to help us when moving onto AWS. The following areas we touched on were Linux,Python, MySQL, Networking and Security. This was a very intesive period with each topic being covered at a fast pace yet I managed to dive deeper into IT than I've ever done as compared to school.
Although intensive, I found this period of learning quite fun as it was challenging to keep up with such a fast pace but the rewards came even quicker with how I managed to create a Linux script only after a couple weeks as well as a python project after 1 week of learning Python.
Studying AWS was when my conept of the future of IT really began to change as before learning about AWS, I had quite a traditional idea of IT and mainly focused on it's technilogical advancements such as the increase in speed and cores of cpu's aswell as newer software packages that could help improve hardware capabilites. Although I was aware of the cloud and certain cloud services, not once was I able to grasp the full scope of benefits that the cloud/Internet could bring to us till I began learning about AWS.
The amount of vasts products and services was surely overwhelming at the start but once digging in, I was able to see how different products and services complimented each other as well as how some of these similar products were distinguishable from one another.
My first project ever on python was this simple game of Space Invaders. Quite fun to make and it was an enjoyable time working with others to create it, reinforcing my sense of teamwork in the tech industry. This game involves the simple objective of shooting down the space invaders before they reach your side of the screen. This was all done with the use of Pygame which is a cross-platform set of modules designed for writing video games.
During this course I've done many labs involving AWS services and practices such as controling permissions, deploying web servers and scaling both front end & back end resources as well as troubleshooting and various others but WildRydes was the first application I built with the use of the Cloud and AWS. WildRydes involved a combination of 5 web services which were Amplify, Amazon Cognito, Amazon API Gateway, Lambda and Dynamo DB. The easiest way to describe WildRydes is by calling it Uber, but with Unicorns instead of vehicles.
Simple but fun game and quite easy to make. Who doesn't love a game of hangman?
"Me"
My cohorts and I thought it would be a great idea to create a way for us to keep in touch and although phones, social media, sms & smtp has already been invented.. We thought it would be good to utilise our knowledge thus far and build a blog website using AWS.
